Allow me a few lines to, not really change the subject, for as you shall see the SUBJECT is still Jesus, but to look at the matter of the text which underlies the King James Bible. The Received Text is the WORD OF GOD and I make no apologies for holding that position. Many years ago, I was not so convinced and I allowed other deviant texts to be considered equal to and perhaps even better than the Received Text. My Lord was very patient with me and over a period of eight years led me to the position I now boldly take. The fact of the matter is that the Greek text which underlies nearly all the modern translations is, at best, dreadfully weak on the Person of Jesus Christ. That is so evident in Hebrews 1:1-3. I shall point out only one of the glaring shortcomings of that deviant text. The Word of God says, "when he had by himself purged our sins, ...". The NIV, which is based on the deviant text, says, "After he had provided purification for sins, ...". The NASV in similar fashion eleminates the phrase, "by himself". This little phrase is a treasure house filled with the richest of spiritual jewels concerning the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ. The entire atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ is wrapped up in those words! Abraham told Isaac, "God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering" Genesis 22. Peter preached on the day of Pentecost, "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ." Acts 2:36. It is such attacks on the glorious Person of the Son of God that convinced me that the Received Text is indeed the very Word of God, without error, and that the King James Bible is an absolutely accurate translation of the Received Text. Therefore, I can stand without apology, and declare to any who will hear, that I am preaching from the very Word of God.
A fourth work of the Wicked One is built upon the foundation of unbelief. Doubting God's Holy Word will destroy the soul of the doubter. Satan whispered to Eve, "Yea, hath God said ...?". The modern perversions of the Bible, which are rampant today, are nothing more than the work of the devil. They all repeat those insidious words of the enemy of our souls, "Yea, hath God said ...?".
When the physician Luke describes Paul by saying, "his spirit was stirred in him", he is using a medical term for "a fit brought on by a fever". When a person has a high fever, they may become "delirious". Paul was not delirious, but he was "beside himself" as he beheld the wickedness, so openly displayed by the Athenians. Brethren, I fear that we have lost sight of the holiness of God and thus we are little affected by the wickedness all about us. God's preachers ought to be nearly in a "fever fit" over the moral sewer which our nation has become. Brethren, "I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; PREACH THE WORD; be instant IN season, OUT of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." May the Holy Ghost so move upon you this LORD'S DAY. God bless you. AMEN!!!
